When Apple unveiled the Apple Watch, the first of its ‘artificially intelligent’ devices, it said that the device would ‘help make life easier and more fun’.
The watch itself will be ‘designed to keep up with your everyday activities’, while also providing ‘more powerful intelligence’.
However, Apple’s ‘artistic intelligence’ is still in the early stages.
In a blog post from December 2016, Apple revealed that Apple’s watch will be based on ‘a core AI technology that is in its early stages of development’, which it said was being used to ‘help us make the experience more fun and easier’.
This ‘articulated intelligence’ will be able to help the watch ‘learn about you and the world around you’, and ‘provide contextual information to assist with tasks like adjusting brightness, adjusting your watch face, or adjusting the time’.
It is not clear how Apple will be using this AI technology to make the watch smarter, or how much power it will have over the device, but we’re hopeful that this will be enough to allow it to provide useful information to the user.
A key difference between the new Apple Watch and the first Apple Watch is the inclusion of an ‘artifactual intelligence’ module.
This is a feature that allows Apple to ‘improve the watch experience for the user’, which will ‘enhance the watch’s overall functionality’.
Although the watch itself may not yet be ‘artified’ in the sense of being able to ‘provid[e] contextual information’, Apple says that it has been able to use this ‘artifice’ to ‘better understand you and your activities, and help us make your life easier, more fun, and more productive’.
It will be interesting to see what Apple does with this ‘intelligence’ when it launches its next ‘smartwatch’ device.
The introduction of Apple Watch has been a mixed bag for the tech industry, with some claiming that it was a bad idea, while others claiming that the watch was the best way to go for people with a disability.
When asked about the new device in a Q&A session with the press last month, Apple chief executive Tim Cook said: ‘The watch is the next big thing, and it’s going to be more interesting than ever before’.
‘The watch’s not the only way to make life more convenient, more enjoyable, more useful, and easier,’ Cook added.
‘And that’s the purpose of this Apple Watch.’
